Wonderful Transformation! January 27, 2008 I just came back from a wonderful vacation which included staying at a resort that had these exact shower rods. I found it easy to install myself (I am not especially handy), using only a drill and screwdriver. You do have to mount the brackets about four inches in from the edge of the tub as the idea is for the curtain to angle in on the sides. This worked fine in my shower as the shower/tub surround doesn't go all the way up to the ceiling. And since I had covered the exposed wall above the surround with mold-resistant paneling, I didn't need to use the special fasteners for mounting on wallboard (although they are included). Since the rod attaches to each brackets with two screws, you need to make sure that you have enough room above the brackets to turn a screw (I only had about a 1" clearance above the bracket which made the screws difficult to turn). The brackets actually allow for variations of a couple inches from the original 5 ft. length by changing how far you insert the rod into the end brackets. And the instructions say that you can also easily cut off a part of the rod for a tub less than 5 feet, although you have to make sure that you cut an equal amount from both ends to keep the crescent symmetrical. Finally, since the rod is stainless, the manufacturers recommend either using plastic curtain rings or waxing the rod frequently. I found that since the rod is basically permanently attached to your wall, I couldn't find plastic curtain rings that would stretch wide enough to snap over the rod, and metal hooks made a loud "screech" whenever you would slide the curtain. I found the best solution to be 12 Chrome Ride SHOWER CURTAIN RINGS hooks bath decor. These hooks have bearings on them which allow for silent sliding on the rod. The combination is perfect! I am so happy with the end result. My shower curtain no longer adheres to my legs with the convection currents caused by the rising heat, the cold air can't sneak around the edges and my showering area is so much roomier!
Great product July 25, 2007 The product was really good for the price. I was a little upset that upon arrival I noticed a dent in the rod itself. I believe this was due to the crappy, non-bubble wrapped packaging that it was sent in. So if you order, great product but check it over really well.
