Marpac SleepMate 980A Electro-Mechanical Sound Conditioner
I recommend this white noise machine. We just build a house in a growing neighborhood. I put it in my infant's room and it helps mask all the construction noise so he can sleep. I also bought one for my husband and I because I found that a fan made us cold and dried out our eyes. My husband also travels a lot and this works wonders in hotel rooms.

This is a great little device, it allows you to block out noise (like from the noisy neighbors in the apartment next door) and lets you get to sleep! I especially like the fact that it is small, and is adjustable so you can increase or decrease the amount of "white noise" it produces depending on how loud the noise is, and what type of noise (i.e., voices, cars, music, etc.).

This product really does work. It took approximately one week to get use to the white noise and it has improved my sleep. I live several miles from a military base and the SleepMate 980A is very effective neutralizing the noise.

I bought this particular machine because it was rated the best buy of mid-priced machines in Consumer Report Magazine. Both my 2 year old and I have problems staying asleep all night. Out of the ordinary noises (as in non-consistent) wake us, and our house is not very sound proof. In the summer I always had a fan going, but now winter is here. After about 1 week of use, both of us are sleeping all night now (it's in his room and I can hear it over the monitor - cost effective) for the past 3 weeks. Thank you so much!!! I could not handle being exhausted another day.
